Acco

Acco: The Swedish Hard Rock Powerhouse

Acco is a Swedish hard rock band that emerged from the vibrant Stockholm music scene in the early 2000s. The group achieved significant commercial success in their home country with their 2008 album Blodspår, which charted within the Swedish Top 40 and was certified gold.

Early career

The band was formed in Stockholm in 2003 by vocalist and guitarist Martin "Konie" Ehrencrona and guitarist Johan "Jossi" Sohlberg. Their early sound was a raw blend of classic heavy metal and punk energy, honed through relentless touring on the Scandinavian club circuit. They self-released their debut EP, För kung och fosterland, in 2005, which caught the attention of the independent label GMR Music.

Breakthrough

Acco's breakthrough arrived in 2008 with their second full-length album, Blodspår, released on GMR Music. The album's lead single gained heavy rotation on Swedish rock radio, propelling the record to number 32 on the Swedish Albums Chart and earning a gold certification for sales exceeding 20,000 copies. This success established Acco as a formidable force in the modern Swedish hard rock landscape.

Key tracks

Blodspår — This anthemic title track became the band's signature song and a staple of their live performances.

Döda mig — The lead single from their breakthrough album showcased their potent mix of melodic hooks and aggressive guitar work.

Ingen nåd — A track highlighting their punk influences, it became a fan favorite for its high-energy pace.

Gatan är min — Featured on their 2011 follow-up album Vägen tillbaka, this song demonstrated their evolving, more refined songwriting.

Kriget — A later-career track known for its social commentary and complex musical structure.

Following their breakthrough, Acco continued to release music consistently, including the albums Vägen tillbaka (2011) and Döden väntar inte (2015). They have collaborated with notable Swedish musicians like Mårten "Märtha" Hagström of Meshuggah on a 2014 B-side and shared stages with international acts such as Clutch and Mustasch. While subsequent albums have charted, they have not yet replicated the commercial peak of Blodspår.

Fans of Acco's brand of melodic yet aggressive Scandinavian rock should also explore Mustasch for their similar groove-oriented riffs and Swedish lyrics. Hardcore Superstar shares the same glam-tinged hard rock foundation and energetic live presence. The classic Swedish sound of The Hellacopters is a clear influence on Acco's garage-rock infused tracks. For a heavier, more modern approach from the same region, check out Avatar.
