Adrenaline Mob
Adrenaline Mob: A Supergroup of Heavy Metal and Hard Rock
Adrenaline Mob is an American heavy metal supergroup formed in New York City in 2011. The band is known for its aggressive blend of groove metal, hard rock, and alternative metal, delivering a high-energy sound built on powerful riffs and intense vocals.
Early career
Adrenaline Mob was founded by guitarist Mike Orlando and drummer Mike Portnoy, who was then recently departed from Dream Theater. The initial lineup was rounded out by vocalist Russell Allen, known for his work with Symphony X, and bassist Paul DiLeo. The group quickly established its sonic identity, releasing a self-titled EP in 2011 that showcased their direct, riff-oriented approach to modern metal.
Breakthrough
The band's debut full-length album, Omertá, arrived in 2012 via Elm City Music. This album solidified Adrenaline Mob's reputation for crafting heavy, groove-laden anthems and helped them build a dedicated fanbase within the hard rock and metal communities. Tracks from this period became staples of their live shows, which were noted for their relentless energy.
Key tracks
Undaunted - This opening track from 'Omertá' perfectly encapsulates the band's aggressive, in-your-face style with its driving rhythm and defiant lyrics.
Come on Get Up - A signature song that highlights the band's knack for combining catchy, anthemic choruses with crushing heavy metal instrumentation.
Feel the Adrenaline - Often used as a concert opener, this track lives up to its name and serves as a mission statement for the band's high-octane sound.
Following their debut, Adrenaline Mob released the album Men of Honor in 2014. The band experienced lineup changes over the years, with Mike Portnoy departing and being replaced by A.J. Pero of Twisted Sister, and later by Jordan Cannata. Despite these changes, the core sound of Adrenaline Mob remained focused on delivering uncompromising heavy music. The group continued to tour and release material, including the album We the People in 2017.
Fans of Adrenaline Mob's blend of heavy groove and hard rock power may also appreciate the work of Symphony X, which shares the powerful vocals of Russell Allen. The modern metal approach can be heard in bands like Disturbed, known for a similar fusion of alternative and groove metal. For the supergroup aspect and musical proficiency, Hellyeah presents a comparable energy, while the hard rock roots are echoed by Alter Bridge.
