Analog Signal: The Resurgence of Raw Synthwave

Analog Signal is an American electronic music project known for its driving retro-futuristic sound. The artist, formed in Los Angeles in 2012, achieved notable commercial success with the 2018 album Neon Dusk, which charted on the Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart.

Early career

Analog Signal was founded by producer and multi-instrumentalist Alex Vance. The project emerged from the underground Los Angeles synthwave scene, with Vance self-releasing the debut EP Circuit Breaker in 2013.

This early work caught the attention of the independent label Retro Future Sounds, which signed the project in 2014. The label released the follow-up EP, Midnight Transmission, later that same year.

Breakthrough

The breakthrough for Analog Signal arrived in 2018 with the critically acclaimed album Neon Dusk. Released via Retro Future Sounds, the album spent 14 weeks on the Billboard chart, peaking at number 11.

Fueled by streaming and strong vinyl sales, the lead single Echo Drive became a staple on electronic and alternative radio formats. This success established the artist as a leading name in the modern synthwave genre.

Key tracks

Echo Drive — This 2018 single became the project's signature track, receiving heavy rotation on specialty radio and surpassing 50 million streams.

Neon Dusk — The title track from the breakthrough album is celebrated for its complex arpeggiated sequences and cinematic atmosphere.

Velocity — A high-energy collaboration with producer Lazerhawk from the 2020 EP Analog Signal & Lazerhawk that expanded their audience.

Static Horizon — Featured on the 2022 album Resonance, this track showcases a darker, more industrial-influenced side of their sound.

The 2022 full-length Resonance marked a shift towards a heavier, more guitar-infused style while maintaining core analog elements. Analog Signal has since collaborated with artists like The Midnight and FM-84, bridging gaps within the broader synthwave community.
