Athlete is a British alternative rock band that emerged from the vibrant London music scene in the early 2000s. The group achieved notable commercial success, with their second album, Tourist, debuting at number one on the UK Albums Chart in 2005.

Early career

The band formed in Deptford, London in 1999, originally consisting of childhood friends Joel Pott (vocals/guitar), Carey Willetts (bass), Steve Roberts (drums), and Tim Wanstall (keyboards). Their early sound blended indie rock with electronic textures, leading to a deal with the independent label Regal Recordings, which released their debut EP, Westside, in 2001.

Breakthrough
