Bone Thugs-N-Harmony: The Pioneers of Melodic Hip-Hop
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony is an American hip-hop group from Cleveland, Ohio, renowned for their rapid-fire, harmonizing vocal style. Their major achievement includes the 1995 double-platinum single "Tha Crossroads," which topped the Billboard Hot 100 and won a Grammy Award.
Early career
Formed in Cleveland in 1991, the original group, initially called B.O.N.E. Enterpri$e, consisted of members Krayzie Bone, Wish Bone, Layzie Bone, Bizzy Bone, and Flesh-n-Bone. Their early, self-distributed tape caught the attention of N.W.A.'s Eazy-E, who signed them to his Ruthless Records label in 1993, prompting their name change to Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.
Breakthrough
The group's breakthrough arrived in 1994 with their EP Creepin on ah Come Up, which featured the hit "Thuggish Ruggish Bone." The EP's success was solidified by their 1995 full-length album E 1999 Eternal, a definitive work that debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and has been certified quadruple platinum.
