Epoch of Chirality: Pioneers of Progressive Synthwave

Epoch of Chirality is an American electronic music project known for its complex, narrative-driven synthwave and retro-futuristic soundscapes. The artist, formed in Los Angeles in 2015, achieved a significant underground following with the 2018 concept album Mirrorcode, which charted on Billboard's Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart and solidified their cult status.

Early career

The project was founded by producer and multi-instrumentalist Aris Thorne, who began crafting music in his home studio after years of scoring for independent video games. A self-released debut EP, Asymmetric Pulse, in 2016 caught the attention of the boutique electronic label NeoLuxe Records, which signed the project later that year.

Breakthrough

Epoch of Chirality's breakthrough arrived in 2018 with the release of their first full-length album, Mirrorcode. Released via NeoLuxe, the album's lead single gained traction on streaming platforms and specialty radio, propelling the album to a peak position of number 18 on the Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart, a notable feat for an independent act.

Key tracks

Mirrorcode — This title track exemplifies the artist's signature blend of pulsating arpeggios and cinematic atmosphere.

Chiral Cascade — A fan-favorite instrumental that became a staple in their live sets and online radio play.

Neon Ghosts (feat. Kaelin May) — This collaboration introduced ethereal vocals to their sound, broadening their audience.

Parallax View — Featured in the soundtrack of the cyberpunk racing game Neon Drift, expanding their reach to a global gaming community.

Following Mirrorcode, the project released the ambitious double album Dual Vector in 2021, which explored darker, more industrial textures. A notable 2022 collaboration with producer Lena Vox on the track Event Horizon further demonstrated their versatility within the electronic genre. Their music continues to evolve, with a focus on immersive audio-visual live performances.

Listeners who enjoy the intricate production and retro-futuristic themes of Epoch of Chirality should also explore Perturbator for a darker take on synthwave. The melodic complexity is shared by The Midnight, another act blending saxophone and 80s nostalgia. For a more cinematic approach, try Kavinsky, a pioneer of the driving retro-electro sound. The conceptual depth is echoed by Gunship, known for their lush, narrative-driven albums.
