Galaxi: The Synthwave Prodigy

Galaxi is the electronic music project of producer and multi-instrumentalist Liam Vance, emerging from the vibrant synthwave scene of Melbourne, Australia. His 2018 debut album, Neon Dreams, captured international attention, ultimately charting on the Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart and achieving gold certification in his home country for sales exceeding 35,000 units.

Early career

Formed in 2014, Galaxi began as Vance's bedroom studio endeavor, heavily inspired by 1980s film scores and retro-futurism. His first two self-released EPs, Midnight Drive (2015) and Starlight (2016), cultivated a dedicated online following, leading to a signing with the independent electronic label Neon Noir Records in early 2017.

Breakthrough

The project's major breakthrough arrived in 2018 with the release of the debut album Neon Dreams on Neon Noir Records. The lead single, "Aurora," became a sleeper hit on streaming platforms and specialty radio, propelling the album to number 12 on the Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart and securing a gold award from ARIA.

Key tracks

Aurora — This breakthrough single defined the Galaxi sound with its shimmering arpeggios and driving beat, becoming a staple on synthwave playlists.

Neon Dreams — The album's title track featuring vocalist Kaitlyn Skye showcased a more melodic, pop-oriented side of the project, expanding its audience.

Velocity — A high-energy instrumental from the second album that became a fan favorite for its complex, racing sequencer patterns.

Echoes of You — This 2021 collaboration with producer The Midnight marked a significant crossover moment into the broader alternative electronic scene.

Following the success of Neon Dreams, Galaxi's sophomore album, Horizon Line (2020), debuted at number 8 on the same Billboard chart. Vance has since engaged in notable collaborations, including production work for fellow synthwave artist FM-84 and a co-writing credit on the track "Night Call" from Kavinsky's 2022 comeback album.
