Gruuve: The Funk-Infused Powerhouse of Modern Rock
Gruuve is an American rock band known for blending heavy guitar riffs with infectious funk and soul rhythms. Hailing from Chicago, the group achieved mainstream recognition with their 2018 sophomore album Resonant Frequency, which debuted at number 12 on the Billboard 200 chart and spawned a certified gold single.
Early career
Formed in 2012, Gruuve's founding members met while studying music at Columbia College Chicago. The quartet, led by vocalist and bassist Maya Vance, initially built a local reputation through relentless gigging in the city's club circuit. Their self-released EP, First Contact in 2014, caught the attention of independent label Riffwave Records, which signed them the following year.
Breakthrough
The band's major breakthrough arrived in 2018 with the release of their second full-length album, Resonant Frequency, on Riffwave. The album's lead single, "Pulse," became a crossover hit, reaching the top 10 on both the Mainstream Rock and Alternative Airplay charts. "Pulse" was later certified gold by the RIAA, solidifying Gruuve's national profile.
