Hazerka

Hazerka: The Industrial Rock Prodigy from Poland
Hazerka is a Polish industrial rock project known for its aggressive fusion of electronic beats and distorted guitar riffs. The act, primarily the brainchild of producer and vocalist Marek "Haze" Kowalski, gained a dedicated European following after the independent release of their debut album "Cisza Przed Burzą" in 2018.
Early career
Hazerka emerged from the underground club scene of Wrocław, Poland around 2015. Initially a solo studio endeavor for Kowalski, the project's early demos circulated online, catching the attention of the independent label Sonic Rebellion.
This led to the 2017 EP "Równanie," a raw but promising collection of tracks that blended Nine Inch Nails-inspired industrial with elements of darkwave. The EP's limited physical release sold out, establishing a small but fervent fanbase.
Breakthrough
The project's breakthrough arrived in 2020 with the sophomore album "Kod." Released via the slightly larger indie label Dark Matter Music, the album's lead single, "Błąd Systemu," received unexpected rotation on alternative radio stations across Poland and Germany.
"Kod" debuted at number 12 on the Polish OLiS album chart and remained in the top 40 for seven weeks. While not certified, label reports indicated the album sold over 15,000 copies in Central Europe, a significant achievement for an industrial act in that market.
Key tracks
Błąd Systemu — This 2020 single became Hazerka's signature track, its driving rhythm and anthemic chorus breaking through to mainstream alternative radio.
Cisza Przed Burzą — The title track from the debut album showcased the project's foundational sound, a minimalist yet powerful blend of atmospheric synths and heavy guitars.
Szum — A later single from 2022 featuring a collaboration with guest vocalist Marta from fellow Polish act The Bill, demonstrating a more melodic, accessible side of the industrial sound.
Kod — The complex, seven-minute title track from the breakthrough album is a fan favorite, known for its dynamic shifts and lyrical themes of technological isolation.
Following the success of "Kod," Hazerka evolved into a full live band for touring, delivering intense performances at festivals like Castle Party and Audioriver. Their 2023 follow-up, "Przebudzenie," saw them experiment with more orchestral elements, collaborating with the Sinfonietta Polonia string ensemble on several tracks.
While maintaining an independent status, Hazerka's consistent output and powerful live shows have solidified their position as a leading force in the European industrial and alternative rock scene. Their music often draws comparisons to acts like Rammstein for its theatrical heaviness, Zeraphine for its melancholic melodies, and fellow Polish innovators Maria who also blend rock with electronic soundscapes.
