Kasabian

Kasabian: The Electrifying Force of British Rock
Kasabian is an English rock band from Leicester known for their swaggering fusion of indie rock, electronica, and psychedelia. The group achieved massive commercial success in the UK, where their first five studio albums all debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart.
Early career
Formed in 1997, the original lineup consisted of vocalist Tom Meighan, guitarist and songwriter Sergio Pizzorno, bassist Chris Edwards, and drummer Ian Matthews. The band, named after Linda Kasabian of the Charles Manson family, honed a loud, groove-heavy sound in local rehearsals before being discovered and signed to RCA Records in 2003.
Breakthrough
The band's self-titled debut album, Kasabian, arrived in 2004 to critical acclaim and strong sales, eventually earning a platinum certification in the UK. Its lead single, "Club Foot", became an instant anthem, receiving heavy rotation on music television and rock radio, propelling the band into the mainstream spotlight.
Key tracks
Club Foot — This explosive debut single defined the band's signature sound with its driving bassline and electronic edge, becoming a staple at festivals.
Fire — The lead single from 2009's West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, it gave Kasabian their first UK number one single and cemented their headline status.
Underdog — A fan favorite from their 2006 album Empire, its catchy hook and propulsive rhythm showcased their anthemic songwriting prowess.
Shoot the Runner — This glam-rock infused track highlighted Sergio Pizzorno's growing confidence as a songwriter and the band's eclectic influences.
eez-eh — A bold, synth-punk single from 2014's 48:13, it demonstrated the band's ability to evolve their sound while maintaining a rebellious energy.
Following their breakthrough, Kasabian solidified their position as festival headliners, notably topping the bill at Glastonbury in 2014. The 2017 departure of original frontman Tom Meighan marked a major shift, with Pizzorno taking over lead vocal duties for the albums The Alchemist's Euphoria (2022) and Happenings (2024). Their music has been used in major sports broadcasts and video games, extending their cultural reach.
Fans of Kasabian's high-energy rock and electronic fusion might also enjoy The Music, another UK band known for a similar blend of rock and dancefloor-ready rhythms. The anthemic, lad-rock swagger of Oasis is a clear foundational influence on Kasabian's attitude. The experimental rock approach of Primal Scream mirrors Kasabian's own genre-blending adventures. For the modern electronic-rock pulse, try The Chemical Brothers, with whom Kasabian have collaborated.
Kasabian's catalog is a regular feature on alternative rock radio stations and modern rock FM playlists across the UK and Europe. Their anthems are also staples on online rock radio streams and independent music radio stations focusing on 21st-century guitar music, ensuring their pulsating beats reach a global audience daily.
