Lord Huron: Indie Folk Rock Storytellers
Lord Huron is an American indie folk rock band known for its cinematic soundscapes and narrative-driven songs. The group, formed in Los Angeles by Michigan-native Ben Schneider, achieved mainstream success with their 2015 album Strange Trails and its platinum-certified single "The Night We Met."
Early career
Lord Huron began as the solo project of singer-songwriter Ben Schneider around 2010. After self-releasing the Into the Sun EP, he expanded the project into a full band, signing with the independent label Iamsound in 2012 to release their debut album, Lonesome Dreams.
Breakthrough
The band's breakthrough arrived in 2015 with their second studio album, Strange Trails. The album's standout track, "The Night We Met," gained massive popularity after its feature in the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, eventually earning a platinum certification in the United States and propelling the band to new commercial heights.
Key tracks
The Night We Met — This haunting ballad became a global hit after its TV sync, defining the band's commercial peak.
Ends of the Earth — An early fan favorite from Lonesome Dreams that encapsulates their signature wanderlust sound.
Wait by the River — A driving, emotionally potent track from their 2018 album Vide Noir.
Not Dead Yet — The lead single from their 2021 album Long Lost, showcasing their lush, vintage studio craftsmanship.
Following their breakthrough, Lord Huron continued to build their distinctive audiovisual universe. Their third album, 2018's Vide Noir, presented a darker, psychedelic-tinged rock journey, while 2021's Long Lost leaned into a classic country and western atmosphere, recorded at their own Whispering Pines studio.
The band's creative output extends beyond music, featuring companion films and a fictional world explored through their albums and live shows. They maintain a strong cult following and consistently chart on the Billboard 200, with Long Lost debuting at number 12.
