Minimatic: The Architect of Nu-Disco & Funk Revival
Minimatic is the stage name of British producer and multi-instrumentalist Leo Vance, a central figure in the 2010s revival of nu-disco and synth-funk. Hailing from Brighton, his 2018 album Neon Circuits achieved commercial success, reaching number 12 on the UK Albums Chart and earning a gold certification for sales exceeding 100,000 copies.
Early career
Leo Vance began his musical journey in the late 2000s, uploading homemade electronic tracks to online forums while studying sound engineering. His early work, a blend of French house and 80s boogie, caught the attention of the independent London label Retro Future Sound, which released his debut EP Electric Pulse in 2012.
Breakthrough
Minimatic's breakthrough arrived in 2016 with the single Starlight Drive, which became an unexpected viral hit on music-sharing platforms. This led to a signing with the larger indie dance label Mirrorball Recordings and the subsequent release of his defining album, Neon Circuits, in 2018.
Key tracks
Starlight Drive — This 2016 single broke Minimatic into the mainstream, amassing over 50 million streams and defining his signature retro-futuristic sound.
Neon Love (feat. Maya Sterling) — The lead single from Neon Circuits peaked at number 24 on the UK Singles Chart and became a staple on dance radio.

Following the success of Neon Circuits, Minimatic embarked on extensive touring and notable collaborations. He co-wrote and produced tracks for pop artist Raya on her 2020 album Digital Heart and contributed a remix for the legendary band Chic in 2022. His third studio album, Analog Dreams, released in 2023, debuted within the top 20 in several European markets.
