Pi Ano: The Virtuoso of Progressive Piano Rock
Pi Ano is the innovative stage name of pianist and composer Piotr Annowski, a Polish musician who has carved a unique niche in the progressive rock landscape. Hailing from Warsaw, his major achievement came with his 2018 album Resonant Chamber, which debuted at number 12 on the Polish album charts and was certified gold within six months of its release.
Early career
Born in 1985, Piotr Annowski began his formal classical piano training at the age of seven in his native Warsaw. His pivot towards rock and experimental music started during his studies at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music, leading to his first independent EP, Keyed In, released digitally in 2010.
This self-released project caught the attention of several European indie labels, culminating in a signing with the boutique progressive rock label Sonic Vista Records in 2012. His first full-length album under the Pi Ano moniker, The Grand Scheme, was released by the label in 2014 to critical acclaim within niche circles.
Breakthrough
Pi Ano's breakthrough into the mainstream Polish music scene arrived in 2018 with his third studio album, Resonant Chamber. Released on the larger Polish label Agora Music, the album's lead single received heavy rotation on national radio, propelling the album to its gold certification and a peak chart position of number 12.
