Prong

Prong: Industrial Metal Innovators
Prong is an American industrial metal and groove metal band formed in New York City in 1986. The group, primarily the brainchild of vocalist and guitarist Tommy Victor, carved a distinct path by fusing hardcore punk aggression with metallic precision and industrial rhythms.
Early career
Prong emerged from the vibrant and gritty New York City hardcore scene of the mid-1980s. Originally a trio, the band self-released their debut album, Primitive Origins, in 1987 on the independent label Spigot before signing with the influential metal label Epic Records.
Breakthrough
The band's commercial and critical breakthrough arrived with their third album, 1994's Cleansing. Released on Epic, the album was produced by Terry Date and featured the hit single Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck, which received heavy rotation on MTV and became a defining track of the era's alternative metal movement.
Key tracks
Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck — This crushing single from Cleansing became a mainstream metal anthem and the band's signature song.
Prove You Wrong — The title track from their 1991 album showcased their evolving, thrash-infused groove metal sound.
Broken Peace — A track from Beg to Differ that exemplifies their early transition from hardcore to a more metallic attack.
Revenge...Best Served Cold — A later career highlight from 2012's Carved into Stone that marked a powerful return to form.
Following Cleansing, Prong released Rude Awakening in 1996 before entering a period of hiatus. Tommy Victor worked extensively as a touring guitarist for bands like Danzig and Ministry, experiences that further honed his style. Prong reactivated in the 2000s and began a prolific streak of albums on labels like SPV, Steamhammer, and Nuclear Blast, including Scorpio Rising, Carved into Stone, and Zero Days, consistently delivering their trademark aggressive sound.
