Real Friends: The Heartfelt Voice of Modern Pop Punk

Real Friends is an American rock band known for their emotionally charged lyrics and energetic pop punk sound. Hailing from Tinley Park, Illinois, the group has built a dedicated following through relentless touring and a series of impactful studio albums.

Early career

Real Friends formed in 2010, emerging from the Chicago suburbs' vibrant music scene. The band, consisting of vocalist Dan Lambton, guitarists Dave Knox and Eric Haines, bassist Kyle Fasel, and drummer Brian Blake, quickly gained traction by self-releasing a series of EPs.

Breakthrough

The band's breakthrough arrived with their 2014 debut album, Maybe This Place Is the Same and We're Just Changing, released on Fearless Records. This record solidified their place in the pop punk revival, connecting with fans through its themes of anxiety, heartbreak, and midwestern nostalgia.

Key tracks

I've Given Up on You - This early fan favorite from the Put Yourself Back Together EP became an anthem for the band's raw, confessional style.

Late Nights in My Car - A standout single that encapsulates the band's signature blend of driving guitars and vulnerable lyricism.

Mess - The lead single from their debut album, which received significant airplay on alternative rock radio stations.

From the Outside - A track showcasing the band's growth and more polished production on their 2016 album The Home Inside My Head.

Nervous Wreck - This song from their 2018 album Composure marked a period of renewed energy and refined songwriting for the group.

Following the release of Composure, vocalist Dan Lambton departed the band in 2020. Real Friends continued with new vocalist Cody Muraro, releasing their fourth studio album, Torn in Two, in 2022, demonstrating their resilience and evolution within the genre.
