Early career

Founded by cEvin Key and Nivek Ogre, Skinny Puppy emerged from Vancouver's underground experimental music scene. Their early sound, developed on cassette releases like Back & Forth, fused harsh electronic rhythms with distorted vocals and sampled media, establishing a dark, cinematic aesthetic.

Breakthrough

The group's signing to Nettwerk records and the subsequent release of albums like Bites (1985) and Cleanse Fold and Manipulate (1987) cemented their status. Their 1989 concept album Rabies, which featured a collaboration with Ministry's Al Jourgensen, brought them increased notoriety and a broader audience within the industrial scene.
