Solar Vision: The Synthwave Prodigy Reviving Retro-Futurism

Solar Vision is the electronic music project of producer and multi-instrumentalist Liam Vance, emerging from the vibrant synthwave scene of Los Angeles, California. The artist's 2018 debut album, Neon Dusk, cracked the Top 10 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Album Sales chart, establishing him as a leading force in the modern retro-wave movement.

Early career

Liam Vance formed Solar Vision as a solo endeavor in 2014, initially crafting instrumentals in his home studio. His early demos, characterized by pulsing arpeggiators and cinematic soundscapes, gained traction on online music forums dedicated to synth and retro-electronica. This digital buzz led to his first official release, the Midnight Drive EP, through the independent label Neon Noir Records in 2016.

Breakthrough

The project's major breakthrough arrived in 2018 with the full-length album Neon Dusk, released via the influential synthwave label FiXT Neon. Lead single Echoes in the Grid became a staple on streaming playlists, propelling the album to number 8 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Album Sales chart. The album's success was solidified by the follow-up single Aurora, which surpassed 50 million streams across platforms, earning a certified gold record in Canada.

Key tracks

Echoes in the Grid — This breakthrough single defined the Solar Vision sound with its driving bassline and melancholic melodies.

Aurora — The certified gold track showcased a more melodic, vocal-driven side, expanding the artist's audience significantly.

Neon Dusk — The title track from the breakthrough album is a masterclass in atmospheric, narrative-driven synthwave.

Circuit Breaker — A high-energy collaboration with producer Dance With the Dead that became a live set highlight.

Horizon Line — Featured on the Digital Dreams album, this song marked a shift towards more complex, progressive structures.

Building on this momentum, Solar Vision's sophomore album, Digital Dreams, arrived in 2021 and debuted at number 5 on the same Billboard chart. The artist has since engaged in notable collaborations, including production work for the rock band The Midnight and a featured track on the Hotline Miami video game soundtrack compilation. His consistent output includes several EPs and a prolific schedule of remixes for artists across the electronic spectrum.
