Beartooth: The Cathartic Force of Modern Metalcore

Beartooth is an American metalcore band from Columbus, Ohio, known for their raw, emotionally charged sound. The band's major achievement is their consistent chart success, with multiple albums debuting in the top 25 of the Billboard 200.

Early Career

Beartooth was formed in 2012 by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Caleb Shomo following his departure from the band Attack Attack!. Shomo initially recorded and released the band's first material, the Sick EP, independently in 2013, handling most instruments himself.

Breakthrough

The band's full-length debut album, Disgusting, arrived in 2014 via Red Bull Records. The album was a commercial and critical success, debuting at number 20 on the Billboard Top Rock Albums chart and establishing their signature blend of aggressive metalcore with melodic, punk-infused hooks.

Key Tracks

In Between - This anthemic single from the album Aggressive became a mainstream rock radio hit and a staple of their live shows.

Body Bag - An early fan favorite from the Sick EP that encapsulates the band's raw, DIY energy and lyrical themes of personal struggle.

Hated - The lead single from Disgusting that immediately defined their brutal yet catchy musical approach.

Disease - The title track from their 2018 album showcased a more polished but equally intense evolution in their sound.

The Past Is Dead - A track from 2021's Below that highlights their continued exploration of heavy riffs and soaring choruses.

Subsequent albums like Aggressive (2016) and Disease (2018) solidified their position, with Disease earning the band their first Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album. Their later work, including the album Below (2021), has continued to explore darker themes while maintaining their core sonic intensity.

Fans of Beartooth's visceral metalcore style may also appreciate the work of A Day To Remember, who similarly blend heavy breakdowns with pop-punk melody. The melodic aggression of The Amity Affliction also resonates with their audience. For the emotional lyrical depth and dynamic sound, listeners might explore Bring Me The Horizon, a band that has followed a parallel path of evolution within the genre.
