NU:Tone is the stage name of Dan Gresham, a pioneering British producer and DJ central to the soulful, musical evolution of drum & bass. Hailing from Cambridge, England, his career is defined by a string of critically acclaimed albums on the legendary Hospital Records and his role in shaping the genre's melodic "Liquid Funk" sound.

Early career

Dan Gresham's musical journey began in the late 1990s, immersed in the vibrant UK drum & bass scene. His early productions quickly caught the attention of London Elektricity's Hospital Records, a then-fledgling label that would become his creative home.

His debut single, "Breathless" / "Chupa," was released on Hospital in 2001, immediately establishing his signature blend of intricate rhythms and warm, soulful melodies.

Breakthrough

NU:Tone's breakthrough arrived with his debut artist album, Brave Nu World, released in 2005. The album was a landmark for Hospital Records, showcasing a fully realized musicality that expanded drum & bass beyond the dancefloor.

It received widespread critical praise and solidified his position as a leading figure in the genre's more melodic and accessible wing. This success was cemented by follow-up albums like Back of Beyond (2007) and Words and Pictures (2011).
