Trapt: The Hard Rock Band Behind "Headstrong"

Trapt is an American hard rock band best known for their early 2000s hit "Headstrong." Hailing from Los Gatos, California, the band achieved mainstream success with their self-titled major-label debut album, which was certified platinum by the RIAA.

Early career

Formed in the mid-1990s in the San Francisco Bay Area, the original lineup featured vocalist Chris Taylor Brown, guitarist Simon Ormandy, bassist Peter Charell, and drummer David Stege. The band built a local following and independently released their debut album, Amalgamation, in 1999, which helped them secure a deal with Warner Bros. Records.

Breakthrough

Trapt's breakthrough arrived in 2002 with the release of their self-titled album, Trapt. The lead single, "Headstrong," became a massive rock radio and MTV staple, propelling the album to sell over two million copies. The song topped the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and reached the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100, defining the post-grunge and nu-metal influenced sound of the era.

Key tracks

Headstrong - This chart-topping rock anthem served as the band's signature hit and launched their career into the mainstream.

Still Frame - Another successful single from the debut album, it further cemented Trapt's place on rock radio playlists.

Echo - A track from their 2005 sophomore album Someone in Control that maintained the band's presence on rock charts.

Following their initial success, Trapt continued to release albums, including Someone in Control in 2005 and No Apologies in 2010, which spawned the rock radio hit "Sound Off." The band has experienced several lineup changes over the years, with Chris Taylor Brown remaining the constant frontman. They have maintained a dedicated fan base through touring and independent releases later in their career.

Fans of Trapt's aggressive yet melodic hard rock style may also appreciate the work of Seether, who share a similar blend of angst and heavy guitar riffs. The driving rock of Three Days Grace also occupies a comparable space in the 2000s rock landscape. Listeners might also connect with the raw energy of Staind or the anthemic qualities of Breaking Benjamin.

The music of Trapt, led by the enduring force of "Headstrong," continues to be a staple on rock radio formats, capturing the intense spirit of early 2000s alternative metal.
