2000 Plus

Step back into a time when the future was a crackling signal pulled from the static of an AM radio. 2000 Plus is that signal, preserved and waiting. Created by Sherman H. Dryer, this pioneering series holds the distinct title of being the first science fiction program produced specifically for radio, a foundational piece of audio fiction that paved the way for everything that followed. This podcast presents these classic episodes as they were originally heard, offering a direct line to the mid-20th century imagination. You'll encounter visions of space exploration and technological marvels that felt both impossibly distant and thrillingly imminent to its original audience. The stories grapple with the societal and ethical challenges these new frontiers create, asking questions about humanity that remain relevant today. Listening to this podcast is an experience in both narrative and history; you're not just hearing a tale about a robot or a rocket, but you're hearing how those concepts were framed and voiced in an era before satellites and microchips. The soundscapes, the acting styles, and the very pacing of the plots offer a unique cultural artifact, a blend of speculative fiction and period drama delivered straight to your ears. It’s a journey into the futures of our past, where each episode builds a different world from oscillators and oratory. For anyone interested in the roots of modern sci-fi, the evolution of audio storytelling, or simply a compelling story well told, 2000 Plus provides a fascinating and often thrilling archive. The series stands as a testament to the power of pure audio to ignite the imagination, proving that the most vivid special effects have always been created between the listener's ears.
