Bipartisan Data Center Backlash Could Help China Win AI Race

Bipartisan Data Center Backlash Could Help China Win AI Race

Author: Jim Geraghty & Greg Corombos – Political Humor Commentary August 24, 2026 Duration: 27:05
Join Jim and Greg for the Monday 3 Martini Lunch as they discuss Seattle voters turning against socialist Mayor Katie Wilson, growing bipartisan opposition to data centers and its potential impact on the U.S. economy and technology sector, Republican infighting in West Virginia, and a third Dan Sullivan emergig in the Alaska Senate fight.

First, they welcome two new polls showing Seattle residents deeply disapproving new socialist Mayor Katie Wilson. She's been roundly criticized for a poor response to a shooting in thee city last month, and for telling rich people and businesses, "Bye," if they're considering leaving Washington over higher taxes.

Next, they note that opposition to data centers might be the biggest issue with bipartisan consensus right now. Jim and Greg walk through the concerns, some of them very valid, and the long-term consequences of stopping or sigificantly slowing data center construction.

Then, they shake their heads as Republican West Virginia Sen. Jim Justice is reportedly making plans to challenge incumbent GOP Gov. Patrick Morrisey in 2028. Justice has served less than two years in the Senate. Jim and Greg agree that serving in the Senate is not very fun these days but if you sign up for six years, you should know what the job involves.

Finally, a third Dan Sullivan is involved in the fight for a U.S. Senate seat in Alaska. Oh, and the vote totals in Alaska also haven't changed since Wednesday. They're stuck at 80 percent of the vote in.

Each day can feel like a barrage of headlines, a chaotic mix of the serious and the absurd. That’s where 3 Martini Lunch-Political Humor & Commentary comes in. Hosts Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos have built a following by sorting through the noise with a specific, effective ritual. They serve up the day’s events in three distinct parts they call "martinis": one for the genuinely good news, another for the frustratingly bad, and a final one reserved for the utterly crazy stories that defy belief. What you’ll hear in this podcast is a conversation that feels like sitting with two well-informed friends who aren’t afraid to be sharp, witty, or blunt. They analyze politics and culture with a perspective that cuts through partisan talking points, aiming for clarity and, often, a much-needed laugh. The pace is brisk and designed for a commute or a lunch break, but the commentary is substantial. Tuning into this podcast means getting a digest of what matters, framed with humor and insight that makes the whirlwind of news actually digestible. It’s a daily check-in that manages to be both smart and consistently entertaining, providing a structured way to understand the world without losing your sanity in the process.
