CBS Calls Out Stephen Colbert's Lies About Talarico Interview

CBS Calls Out Stephen Colbert's Lies About Talarico Interview

Author: Jim Geraghty & Greg Corombos – Political Humor Commentary February 18, 2026 Duration: 32:18
Join Jim and Greg for the Wednesday 3 Martini Lunch as they dissect Stephen Colbert and James Talarico apparently lying about why their interview was not aired on CBS, Zohran Mamdani threatening to soak all property owners in New York City with much higher taxes, and a House Republican sounding the alarm about how soon Social Security is going to implode.

First, they follow up on Tuesday’s martini about why Colbert’s interview with Talarico did not air on CBS. Colbert and Talarico claim President Trump’s FCC forced the network to spike the segment, but CBS officials now say they never suggested pulling the interview. Jim is fuming at Colbert and Talarico.

Next, they turn to New York City, where New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is threatening massive property tax increases if state lawmakers refuse to approve higher taxes on “the rich” and corporations. Jim and Greg point out how painfully predictable this was despite Mamdani's "affordability" campaign.

Finally, they spotlight Rep. David Schweikert’s warning that Social Security will implode in less than seven years if no action is taken. Jim and Greg not only lament the lack of will in either party to address the problem, but they also remind us how much more solvent the program would be if we started investing some of Social Security in the markets 20 years ago when President George W. Bush was pushing for it.

Each day can feel like a barrage of headlines, a chaotic mix of the serious and the absurd. That’s where 3 Martini Lunch-Political Humor & Commentary comes in. Hosts Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos have built a following by sorting through the noise with a specific, effective ritual. They serve up the day’s events in three distinct parts they call "martinis": one for the genuinely good news, another for the frustratingly bad, and a final one reserved for the utterly crazy stories that defy belief. What you’ll hear in this podcast is a conversation that feels like sitting with two well-informed friends who aren’t afraid to be sharp, witty, or blunt. They analyze politics and culture with a perspective that cuts through partisan talking points, aiming for clarity and, often, a much-needed laugh. The pace is brisk and designed for a commute or a lunch break, but the commentary is substantial. Tuning into this podcast means getting a digest of what matters, framed with humor and insight that makes the whirlwind of news actually digestible. It’s a daily check-in that manages to be both smart and consistently entertaining, providing a structured way to understand the world without losing your sanity in the process.
