The Left's Strategy for Selling Socialism

The Left's Strategy for Selling Socialism

Author: Jim Geraghty & Greg Corombos – Political Humor Commentary July 20, 2026 Duration: 26:00
Join Jim and Greg for the Monday 3 Martini Lunch as they dissect the left's attempt to make socialism appealing by lying about what it really is, Democrats in Maine picking Graham Platner's replacement in the U.S. Senate race, President Trump urging Lindsey Graham's sister to run for a full term, and Vice President Vance and his wife welcoming their fourth child.

First, they shake their heads as a socialist activist in New York City tells podcaster Nate Friedman that socialism is just about community and getting to know people by watching sports and having coffee together. Jim and Greg discuss how ridiculous this message is but how the right needs to be ready to confront it.

Next, they react to Democrats in Maine rallying around Troy Jackson as their new U.S. Senate nominee. Jim and Greg explain how Jackson's ties to Graham Platner could be a problem and how Democrats there are facing tougher and tougher odds in a must-win race.

Then, they push back on President Trump publicly urging Sen. Darline Graham Nordone to run for a full six-year term in the U.S. Senate. With all due respect to the new senator, Jim and Greg offer multiple reasons why they think this is a bad idea.

Finally, they offer congratulations to Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha, for the healthy arrival of their new baby boy.

Each day can feel like a barrage of headlines, a chaotic mix of the serious and the absurd. That’s where 3 Martini Lunch-Political Humor & Commentary comes in. Hosts Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos have built a following by sorting through the noise with a specific, effective ritual. They serve up the day’s events in three distinct parts they call "martinis": one for the genuinely good news, another for the frustratingly bad, and a final one reserved for the utterly crazy stories that defy belief. What you’ll hear in this podcast is a conversation that feels like sitting with two well-informed friends who aren’t afraid to be sharp, witty, or blunt. They analyze politics and culture with a perspective that cuts through partisan talking points, aiming for clarity and, often, a much-needed laugh. The pace is brisk and designed for a commute or a lunch break, but the commentary is substantial. Tuning into this podcast means getting a digest of what matters, framed with humor and insight that makes the whirlwind of news actually digestible. It’s a daily check-in that manages to be both smart and consistently entertaining, providing a structured way to understand the world without losing your sanity in the process.
