S2 Ep13: Stan Lee Tribute - 4-Panel Vol. 2, Issue 13

S2 Ep13: Stan Lee Tribute - 4-Panel Vol. 2, Issue 13

Author: The Geek Show November 19, 2018 Duration: 1:09:04

We lost one of the kings of pop culture, a much beloved creative force, and one of the people who was responsible for making comic books what they are today. He made us believe in characters who were larger than life, but somehow still down to earth, and shone a light on prejudice (X-Men), diversity (Black Panther, Luke Cage, Jean Grey, Black Widow, She-Hulk), mental health (Hulk, Ant-Man), and physical disability (Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Iron Man), at a time when such issues were ignored or disparaged.

On this week's episode Andrew, Mick and Rob pay tribute to one of the 20th and 21st century's greatest pop culture icons - the late, the great Stan Lee, who made us believe in heroes again and again.

After a sombre start it's time to talk about what we've been reading, which this week are Sullivan’s Sluggers by Mark Andrew Smith & James Stokoe, EXO by Jerry Frissen & Philippe Scoffoni, the first volume of The Seven Deadly Sins spinoff manga series Seven Days by You Kokikuji, the first volume of Boarding School Juliet by Yousuke Kaneda, Deadpool: Assassin and the Ghost in the Shell: Global Neural Network anthology.

Until next time, Excelsior!

Dive deep into the vibrant, inky world of graphic storytelling with 4-Panel | Comics & Manga. Hosted by the crew from The Geek Show, this podcast feels less like a formal review and more like hanging out at your local comic shop, eavesdropping on the most passionate, knowledgeable, and slightly chaotic conversation in the corner. Each episode is a journey through the panels, where the latest superhero movie news might spark a deep dive into its obscure source material, or a review of a classic manga can derail into a hilarious debate about the weirdest trends in sequential art. You’ll hear genuine reactions to the most exciting and baffling news from both Western comics and Japanese manga, alongside unfiltered reviews that celebrate masterpieces and lovingly roast the odd misfire. The charm of this show lies in its authentic, meandering energy-the hosts get genuinely excited and distracted, following tangents that often lead to the best insights. It’s a celebration of the entire culture, from big-screen adaptations to the indie zine you’ve never heard of. Tune in for a weekly dose of enthusiasm that reminds you why you fell in love with these stories in the first place.
