109 Barbara De Vito: CranioSacral Therapy The Healing Touch

Author: John Biethan, Angie Ates, Lisa Victoria, Kim Shea, Lisa Thorp November 25, 2020 Duration: 20:18

In this episode of Alternative Health Tools, we learn that CranioSacral Therapy is a potential antidote to several ailments that are unfortunately trending as a result of the stresses and strains of the Covid Era.

"I see a lot of people with chronic pain, headache, facial pain, neck pain, back pain, stress," says Barbara DeVito, a San Diego-based therapist. "I see three times as much anxiety, depression, and sleep problems than I have in the past. And I do believe it has to do with what people are going through right now — lots of fear. And that can set in the body."

CranioSacral Therapy addresses such complaints through gentle manipulation that releases restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system. "The body and the mind work together," says DeVito. "Once the mind is relaxed, the body starts relaxing. Once the body is relaxed, the mind starts relaxing."

The primary area of focus in CST is from the shoulders up. "There's a lot of work on their head and in the occiput [back of the head], and you're basically lifting up and helping that compression to kind of lift."

DeVito, who's also a licensed nutritionist and massage, Reiki, and yoga therapist, takes a holistic approach to her practice. One of her clients had suffered chronic headaches for 15 years. "Within three months of craniosacral, his headaches were disappearing.  He was working on cars and learned that the way he used his shoulders, was part of the problem. And he changed this habit."

CST is also applicable to conditions like TMJ, and produces good results in treating pediatric conditions, like autism, torticollis, and even colic.
