Episode 25: 2014 Green Bay Packers

Episode 25: 2014 Green Bay Packers

Author: Brian Fischer and Rodrigo Monico-Barros January 20, 2019 Duration: 1:09:03
The Fall of Troy, The Battle of Waterloo, Custer’s Last Stand, and Hillary’s loss in the 2016 Presidential Election. All crushing defeats. But, if you live in the state of Wisconsin, they all pale in comparison to the 2014 NFC Championship Game, where our beloved Green Bay Packers took a crippling loss to the Seattle Seahawks after blowing a 16-0 halftime lead, and losing a chance for a trip to the Super Bowl. Played on January 18, 2015 the game pitted Green Bay’s top scoring offense vs. Seattle’s vaunted defense. What ensued was nothing short of a Russian novel, and would leave the Green Bay Packer fan base utterly destroyed. Was it Devine Intervention? Was it Russell Wilson and his NanoBubbles? Or did the Packers just choke in the second biggest game of the season? (For information on choking in the biggest game of the season, see: Super Bowl XLIX). Should the Green Bay Packer’s have won the 2014 NFC Championship Game? Listen and decide!

Ever wondered what would have happened if your favorite movie had a different ending, or if a pivotal sports moment had gone the other way? That's the playground of the Alternative History Podcast, hosted by Brian Fischer and Rodrigo Monico-Barros. This isn't a dry lecture series; it's a lively, often comedic conversation between two friends diving into the pop culture moments, historical footnotes, and societal trends that didn't quite land as intended. Each episode picks apart a topic from movies, music, TV, sports, or books, examining how things could have-or perhaps should have-unfolded differently. The charm of this podcast lies in its genuine, meandering discussions that connect unexpected dots, finding humor and insight in the shared experiences that shape our culture. Listen in for a blend of casual analysis and lighthearted debate, where the goal is less about academic correction and more about celebrating the fascinating, messy stories we all remember. It's a space for reconsidering the past with a smile, one "what if" at a time.
