Losing My Balance

Losing My Balance

Author: David Pejčinović-Bailey MBE November 5, 2023 Duration: 26:38

This episode is a bit different from our usual ones. Instead of interviewing fascinating individuals about Bosnia and Herzegovina, I’m sharing some personal experiences and observations from my life in this heart-shaped country.

I had an interesting episode planned for you today. I was going to take you on a walk through my village, describing the beautiful forestry and local landmarks. However, an unexpected bout of dizziness forced me to cut the walk short. Despite this setback, I’m sharing my experience up to the point where I had to turn back.

We’ll also touch on some health concerns I’ve been having, particularly recurring balance issues. There’s a family history with similar issues, but we won’t get into that right now.

Despite the unexpected turn of events, I encourage you to stay tuned for more personal stories and insights about life in the Balkans. And as always, I’d love to hear your thoughts and reactions in the comments section or on review platforms.

This episode is a reminder that life doesn’t always go as planned, but there’s always a story to tell. So here’s to more stories from me, David, an Englishman in the Balkans.

Please also do share this episode and maybe leave a 5 start review on the podcast platform you listened to this on.

David Pejčinović-Bailey MBE hosts An Englishman in the Balkans, a series that moves beyond travelogue clichés to offer a grounded, personal account of building a life in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This isn't a tour guide; it's a collection of audio journals from someone who has chosen to make his home there. Listeners hear candid reflections on the nuances of daily life, from navigating bureaucracy and language to finding unexpected comfort in local traditions. The podcast often features conversations with the fascinating individuals David encounters-artists, neighbors, historians, and everyday people-whose stories add rich layers to the understanding of a region frequently defined by its past conflicts. Episodes might delve into the complex tapestry of Balkan history over a coffee, or explore the simple joy of a shared meal, all framed through the perspective of an immigrant learning to see a place not as a visitor, but as a resident. The result is a thoughtful, sometimes humorous, and always humanizing portrait of a country and its culture, recorded from the inside. For anyone curious about the realities of displacement, belonging, or the specific textures of life in Southeast Europe, this podcast provides an authentic and engaging listen.
