Friends of Binna Burra (FOBBs) came into existence in 1984. They share a love of nature and the bush and are interested in preserving and supporting the special beauty that is Binna Burra. In this episode, Michelle is joined by Jankees van der Have, the Chairman of FoBBs, Lena van Swinderen, a member of FoBBs who is currently undertaking her PhD studies in conservation science and Tim Atherton a  co-founding member of FoBBs, and Chair of the recently formed Binna Burra Foundation. You’ll hear how FoBBs is a voluntary, not-for-profit organisation who meet four times a year for a weekend of work and friendship and details about their bush regeneration work since the 2019 fires on the mountain. Tim also shares about the Binna Burra Foundation and its work to continue the Art.Nature.Science Program in the coming year and the working group that's been established to rebuild the history and heritage collection of Binna Burra library that was lost in the fire. Nestled within the World Heritage-listed landscape of Lamington National Park, Art. Nature. Science. at Binna Burra is a soundscape of creative and curious minds. For nearly a century, this unique place has been a crucible for interdisciplinary discovery, a tradition tragically interrupted by the 2019 bushfires. This audio series marks a vibrant resurgence, chronicling the relaunched program from Binna Burra itself. You’ll hear the voices of the community-painters, ecologists, researchers, and dedicated volunteers-as they discuss their ongoing work within this recovering ecosystem. Episodes delve into the tangible connections between observation, data, and expression, exploring how scientific inquiry fuels artistic practice and how a deep engagement with nature informs both. It’s an intimate audio journey into the process behind the projects, offering a behind-the-scenes perspective on how visitors might interact with and interpret the work happening on the ground. This podcast serves as an auditory field guide, not just documenting a program’s renewal but actively questioning how we perceive and represent the natural world. It captures the specific sounds, stories, and conversations that define this ambitious effort to once again intertwine artistic and scientific exploration in a legendary Australian landscape.
