Asphalt Ballads

The sound of the city is a constant composition, a rhythm built from engine hum, distant sirens, and the shuffle of countless footsteps. Asphalt Ballads, created by BANG IA, is a podcast that treats this urban landscape as its primary instrument. This isn't a talk show or a narrated journey; it's a series of auditory excavations. Each episode is a field recording transformed, where the raw, often overlooked noises of metropolitan life are layered, stretched, and woven into immersive, ambient soundscapes. You might hear the metallic percussion of a construction site evolve into a driving beat, or the echo of a subway tunnel become a haunting drone. The podcast finds melody in the chaos and harmony in the dissonance, crafting musical pieces that are directly sourced from the environment they seek to portray. Listening to Asphalt Ballads is an exercise in re-hearing the world around you. The familiar becomes foreign, and the mundane becomes musical. It’s for anyone who has ever paused on a street corner and wondered what song the city is trying to sing. BANG IA acts as a curator and composer of these found sounds, presenting them without commentary, allowing each asphalt ballad to speak-or rather, to play-for itself. Tune in and discover the symphony already in progress just outside your door.
