Have Your Say: The ADPP 2017 Winter Survey
Why aren't there more kids audio shows? Why isn't there horror? Sci-fi? Comedy coming voluminously out of - and into - children's ears? We ponder the audio scene for kids and focus on the amazing range of work in bi-naural audio being done by Michel Lafrance on The Owlfield, and how Jonathan Messinger is inspiring kids to create and nurture their love of reading by listening to Finn Caspian.

How and where do they market their shows? What is their demographic and how do they focus their shows on those age ranges? How do they make their shows appealing to kids and how much interaction do they get from their young audiences? We discuss how podcasting folks need to educate parents about what wealth of shows are available to them, and hopefully inspire you to crack on and make some audio drama for kids too!

And (Cry) this is also sadly Fiona Thraille's last co-presenting episode. We will miss her truly very madly deeply very much and wish her well in her future Audio Drama Producing endeavours, and she has promised to come back and speak about them one day. You're still stuck with Sarah. Sorry 'bout that....

Our next episodes are co-presented by Zachary Fortais-Gomme of The Orphans Podcast re our horror episode, and then Rick Coste for part two of our children's audio exploration. Each new show will now have a co-host who is someone amazing from the Audio Drama world. If you'd be interested in doing this and are an active audio drama creative, please let Sarah know!

For anyone who has ever been captivated by a story told only through sound and wondered, "How do they do that?"-this is for you. The Audio Drama Production Podcast, from the UberDuo Podcast Network, is a deep, practical dive into the craft of building worlds with audio. It moves beyond simple advice to explore the entire process of bringing fictional narratives to life in your ears. Each episode tackles the specific, often unspoken challenges of writing for the ear, directing voice actors, designing immersive soundscapes, and weaving it all together in the edit. You'll hear about the technical choices behind convincing ambiance and the narrative techniques that make characters feel present in the room. Whether you're a writer curious about scripting without visuals, a producer figuring out remote recording sessions, or a creator wondering how to distribute your finished work, this podcast serves as a constant workshop. It’s a resource for making any form of audio fiction-call it a radio play, an audio drama, or a fiction podcast-focusing on the tangible skills and creative problem-solving required from initial idea to final master. The discussions are grounded in real production experience, offering a clear path through the complexities of this unique storytelling medium.
