Welcome to our first episode of Book Club! Where we have fun and intriguing guests on our show to read some classic insanity. In our first episode, we have Amanda Meadows and Geoffrey Golden! Two goofballs from Los Angeles who founded The Devastator, which was the only comedy press in America, praised by The AV Club, WIRED,  Entertainment Weekly, and more. They’ve also written and created podcasts and audio fiction for Stitcher, Nerdist, Wondery, and Campfire Media. Now, Amanda is a senior editor at comics publisher Oni Press, and Geoffrey is a narrative designer for video game studios around the world. Check out their podcast Dirt Cheap!

Ever find yourself staring at a classic novel, intimidated by its reputation, and think, "I bet this would be more fun if someone made silly voices and mercilessly made fun of it"? That's the entire premise of Bad Audiobooks. Hosts Nick Mazmanian and Kent Heidelman operate on a simple, beautiful principle: literature is for everyone, especially if you're willing to laugh at it. They dive into stories ranging from revered classics like Sherlock Holmes and Lovecraft to forgotten pulp and oddball fairy tales, never knowing what's coming next until they're already recording. Each episode is a live, unrehearsed reaction as they take turns reading the text aloud in increasingly ridiculous accents and character voices, all while providing a running commentary that roasts plot holes, archaic language, and bewildering character decisions. This isn't a dry book club; it's a comedic demolition derby where the sacred cows of storytelling are cheerfully tipped over. The rotation between classic fiction, contemporary oddities, and genuinely terrible writing keeps the podcast unpredictable and fresh. You'll hear familiar tales twisted into new, hilarious shapes and discover obscure stories you never knew existed (often for good reason). By applying their twisted lens of comedy, Nick and Kent make the highbrow world of novels accessible and uproariously entertaining, proving that sometimes the best way to appreciate a story is to not take it seriously at all. Tune in to this parody podcast for a uniquely chaotic and enduringly funny take on the books you were supposed to read.
