After a long hiatus, BATTASS is back, but we begin our new season on a somber note, as Sean and Clay discuss the legacy of, and pay tribute to, arguably the greatest actor to take on the role of Batman, the late Kevin Conroy.

Per Wikipedia:Kevin Conroy (November 30, 1955 – November 10, 2022) was an American actor. He was best known as the voice behind the DC Comics superhero Batman in various media, beginning with the 1990s Batman: The Animated Series and its subsequent spin-off TV series and feature films in the DC Animated Universe. Due to the popularity of his performance as Batman, Conroy went on to voice the character for multiple films under the DC Universe Animated Original Movies banner and the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham and Injustice video games.

Conroy was born on November 30, 1955, in Westbury, New York, into an Irish Catholic family. He moved to Westport, Connecticut, when he was about 11 years old. He had three older siblings. Conroy moved to New York City in 1973 when he earned a full scholarship to attend the Juilliard School’s drama division, studying under actor John Houseman. While there, he roomed with Robin Williams, who was in the same group as both Conroy and Kelsey Grammer. After graduating from Juilliard in 1978, he toured with Houseman’s acting group The Acting Company, and the following year he went on the national tour of Ira Levin’s Deathtrap. The defining voice of Batman for arguably multiple generations, Kevin Conroy’s impact on the character in the minds of fans all over the world cannot be understated. The passion and care he put into each of his performances helped define the character to the point where many say when they read (or write, in our case) Batman comics, Kevin’s is the voice they hear in their heads. He was a great talent, and a great inspiration, and he will be sorely missed.
