Beware the Creeper & Judgment Day

Beware the Creeper & Judgment Day

This is it, we’ve made it to the end! This week on the BATTASS Podcast, Sean and Clay have made it to the end of the Batman: The Animated Series road as they cover the final two episodes of the “classic” era of animated Batman, the raucous Beware the Creeper, and the litigious Judgment Day! There are a couple of pretty flamboyant costumes in these, one in bright colors, and the other…well if goth can be flamboyant, The Judge is probably it.

First up in The Creeper, reporter Jack Ryder makes the mistake of trying to walk a mile in the Joker’s shoes, and ends up at the bottom of the very same vat of chemicals the Joker did! However, this time the chemicals turn his skin a sickly yellow, and doom him to an existence as a never-ending Jim Carrey impression! A few unwanted sexual advances on Harley later and Jack, now The Creeper, is right in the Joker’s crosshairs!

Then in Judgment Day (the episode that is definitely not Mask of the Phantasm), there’s a new vigilante on the block dressed in dark robes, appearing through smoke, brandishing a big bladed weapon (again, definitely NOT the Phantasm), and he’s taking out criminals in a much more violent way than Batman deems reasonable (once again, separate character, zero connection to the Phantasm). Batman is pushed to his limit as he has to figure out the identity of this new vigilante and come to terms with what it means for him when he finds out how they’re connected (just want to stress again, this is not the Phantasm)!

It’s been a long road, getting from there to here for the BATTASS Podcast, and Sean and Clay would both like to thank everyone who’s been along for the ride, and enjoyed our discussions of the episodes, as well as our tangents that veer off into any number of varied topics, art-related, hentai-related, or others!

So get your best red fur boa, polish up your oversized gavel, and join us for Beware The Creeper and Judgment Day! And we’ll see you in a few months for BATTASS BEYOND!

Ever wonder what happens when two working comic book artists sit down to talk about the definitive cartoon version of the Dark Knight? That’s the simple, compelling premise behind BATTASS: The Batman The Animated Series Show Podcast. Hosts Clay McCormack and Sean Murphy bring their insider’s perspective from the drawing board to every discussion, breaking down each installment of the legendary series. Their conversations are less like formal reviews and more like you’re overhearing a deep, passionate, and often very funny debate between two experts who genuinely love the material. You’ll hear them trace the artistic influences in the show’s iconic style, analyze the sharp writing that appealed to both kids and adults, and share personal insights into why certain characters or storylines resonate so powerfully within the broader world of comics. This isn’t a rushed recap; it’s a thoughtful, episode-by-episode excavation of what made Batman: The Animated Series a cultural touchstone. The result is a consistently engaging podcast that feels both educational and entertaining, offering a unique lens on a show many of us thought we already knew everything about. New episodes from The Pensky File dive into a single chapter of the animated saga, making it a perfect companion whether you’re revisiting the series or discovering it for the first time.
