Make ‘Em Laugh & Deep Freeze

“Make ‘Em Laugh” with a “Deep Freeze”!

Make ‘Em Laugh: Using microchips stolen from the Mad Hatter, the Joker brainwashes famous comedians into committing crazy crimes in order to ruin their reputations. As it turns out, the comedians are the judges who tossed the Joker out of the Gotham Comedy Competition the year before. Now, the Clown Prince of Crime wants to seek his revenge, and Batman and Robin must foil the Joker’s plot.

Deep Freeze: Mr. Freeze is sprung from Arkham by aging billionaire Grant Walker, who is looking to freeze the world and recreate it according to his own design. Batman and Robin infiltrate the billionaire’s underwater city and combat both high-tech robots and Mr. Freeze himself, who has decided to do Walker’s bidding and cover the earth in a new ice age.

This week on The BATTASS Podcast, special guest Eric Peters (@graphiknightart) joins us for the penultimate episode of our coverage of Batman the Animated Series “Season 3,” as we get up on stage with The Joker in Make ‘Em Laugh, as well as go on the world’s coldest amusement park ride with Mr. Freeze in Deep Freeze! The show brings back two of its most popular villains to help round out its official, final season, and they do not disappoint!

First up, in Make ‘Em Laugh, Using microchips swiped from the Mad Hatter, the Joker brainwashes famous comedians into carrying out screwball crimes so as to ruin their reputations. The Joker is the big bad here, but Make ‘Em Laugh introduces us to three very unique additions to Batman’s revered rogues’ gallery: Pack Rat, Mighty Mom, and of course, the greatest on-off villain of all time, The Condiment King!

Next up in Deep Freeze, Mr Freeze is kidnapped from prison by Grant Walker who wants to freeze the world and recreate it according to his own design. Batman and Robin infiltrate the billionaire’s underwater city where they combat high-tech robots and Mr Freeze himself. Mr. Freeze makes only his second appearance in the series here, and is once again faced with giving into the darker aspects of his nature, all in the hopes of getting back the only thing he cares about: his wife Nora. Unfortunately, an evil Walt Disney analog stands in his way!

Join Sean and Clay as they get into the nitty gritty of the finer points of comedy contest paperwork details, villainous theme park magnates, flash sales at the Brand Manager’s place, mustard as a projectile weapon, and Mr. Freeze’s love of cold women. Grab your warmest parka, wrap your melting friend in a light blanket, and get ready for a punchline with these two episodes!

Ever wonder what happens when two working comic book artists sit down to talk about the definitive cartoon version of the Dark Knight? That’s the simple, compelling premise behind BATTASS: The Batman The Animated Series Show Podcast. Hosts Clay McCormack and Sean Murphy bring their insider’s perspective from the drawing board to every discussion, breaking down each installment of the legendary series. Their conversations are less like formal reviews and more like you’re overhearing a deep, passionate, and often very funny debate between two experts who genuinely love the material. You’ll hear them trace the artistic influences in the show’s iconic style, analyze the sharp writing that appealed to both kids and adults, and share personal insights into why certain characters or storylines resonate so powerfully within the broader world of comics. This isn’t a rushed recap; it’s a thoughtful, episode-by-episode excavation of what made Batman: The Animated Series a cultural touchstone. The result is a consistently engaging podcast that feels both educational and entertaining, offering a unique lens on a show many of us thought we already knew everything about. New episodes from The Pensky File dive into a single chapter of the animated saga, making it a perfect companion whether you’re revisiting the series or discovering it for the first time.
