Old Wounds & The Demon Within

Old Wounds & The Demon Within

Author: The Pensky File September 15, 2021 Duration: 1:32:38

This week on The BATTASS Podcast we cover two episodes that tackle the two biggest questions of the series thus far: what was the cause of the final break up of Batman and Robin, and how would Batman react if he was magically turned into a half-man, half tree by a young Witch Boy with a pet cat who turns into a full-size, humanoid cat woman? Fear not, Bat-Fans, as we’ve got all your answers and then some as we conjure up Old Wounds and The Demon Within!

First up, in Old Wounds, who’s ready for storytime with Dick Grayson, bay bay? After taking down some z-level thugs, Nightwing regales Robin with his secret origin, finally revealing what led to the break up of the original dynamic duo. It’s a story of two partners in crime (fighting) who have grown up and grown apart. Throw in some lying to your significant other and a helping of excessive violence and you’ve got yourself a stew going!

Next up in The Demon Within,, Klarion, the Witch Boy, takes control of Etrigan the Demon and Batman and Robin must stop his destructive mischief. Batman takes a trip into the realm of magic for only the second time in the series, and it sure has destructive results! Magic laser blasts, Batman turning into a tree, tiny alleyways with no outlets, mystical branding irons, and some truly transformative poetry round out an episode with a devilish guest star who really makes an impression.

While Old Wounds answers some big questions, The Demon Within presents only the second time Batman has a mystical/magical encounter and also is only the second episode of the series to feature a character (Etrigan) from the larger DC Universe (Zatanna being the other).  So grab your grimoire, get your daddy issues in line, and join us for Old Wounds and The Demon Within!

Ever wonder what happens when two working comic book artists sit down to talk about the definitive cartoon version of the Dark Knight? That’s the simple, compelling premise behind BATTASS: The Batman The Animated Series Show Podcast. Hosts Clay McCormack and Sean Murphy bring their insider’s perspective from the drawing board to every discussion, breaking down each installment of the legendary series. Their conversations are less like formal reviews and more like you’re overhearing a deep, passionate, and often very funny debate between two experts who genuinely love the material. You’ll hear them trace the artistic influences in the show’s iconic style, analyze the sharp writing that appealed to both kids and adults, and share personal insights into why certain characters or storylines resonate so powerfully within the broader world of comics. This isn’t a rushed recap; it’s a thoughtful, episode-by-episode excavation of what made Batman: The Animated Series a cultural touchstone. The result is a consistently engaging podcast that feels both educational and entertaining, offering a unique lens on a show many of us thought we already knew everything about. New episodes from The Pensky File dive into a single chapter of the animated saga, making it a perfect companion whether you’re revisiting the series or discovering it for the first time.
