Riddler’s Reform & Second Chance

Riddler’s Reform & Second Chance

Author: The Pensky File December 3, 2020 Duration: 1:09:57

This week on The BATTASS Podcast, we continue the running theme on this season of Batman The Animated Series, namely looking at what happens with Gotham’s biggest baddies decide to turn over a new leaf. Are they being sincere? Are they really trying to turn it around? Or is it just all an elaborate plan to pull one over on Batman and the people of Gotham? Our two episodes give us two different answers with Riddler’s Reform and Second Chance

First up, in Riddler’s Reform, The Riddler, vowing to change his ways, gets a job in a toy company, but Batman suspects that the Riddler is still obsessed with defeating him. Now, the Dark Knight must prove that the Riddler is still a criminal at heart. Unfortunately for Batman, Riddler does the math and realizes the only way to really free himself of his criminal past is to kill the one thing that inexorably links him to a life of crime: the caped crusader himself!

Next up in Showdown, Before undergoing surgery meant to remove both his disfigurement and his alternate personality, Two-Face/Harvey Dent is kidnapped by persons unknown. A different twist on the “bad guy goes straight” formula, this one has Harvey’s quest to turn it all around hit the one big road block that’s always there to bring him back to the dark side: big bad Harv. It’s a fun one that, as they always do, has Batman’s fate decided by the maniacal flip of a coin!

Join Sean and Clay as they get into the nitty gritty of the finer points of bad guys going straight, how easy it is to stump The Riddler, Nuking the fridge, and Harvey’s shoddy coin flip etiquette. Cuddle up with your cleanest exit strategy and join us in starting a new life on the straight and narrow!

Ever wonder what happens when two working comic book artists sit down to talk about the definitive cartoon version of the Dark Knight? That’s the simple, compelling premise behind BATTASS: The Batman The Animated Series Show Podcast. Hosts Clay McCormack and Sean Murphy bring their insider’s perspective from the drawing board to every discussion, breaking down each installment of the legendary series. Their conversations are less like formal reviews and more like you’re overhearing a deep, passionate, and often very funny debate between two experts who genuinely love the material. You’ll hear them trace the artistic influences in the show’s iconic style, analyze the sharp writing that appealed to both kids and adults, and share personal insights into why certain characters or storylines resonate so powerfully within the broader world of comics. This isn’t a rushed recap; it’s a thoughtful, episode-by-episode excavation of what made Batman: The Animated Series a cultural touchstone. The result is a consistently engaging podcast that feels both educational and entertaining, offering a unique lens on a show many of us thought we already knew everything about. New episodes from The Pensky File dive into a single chapter of the animated saga, making it a perfect companion whether you’re revisiting the series or discovering it for the first time.
