Today’s field hearing in Palm Beach is being held by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee as part of the broader congressional investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, his criminal network, and the institutional failures that allowed him to operate for years in Palm Beach County. The hearing is taking place near Epstein’s former Palm Beach mansion and is centered heavily on survivor testimony, expert witnesses, and renewed scrutiny of the infamous 2008 non-prosecution agreement that allowed Epstein to avoid federal charges while serving an unusually lenient county jail sentence with work release privileges. Ranking Member Robert Garcia has framed the hearing as an effort to revisit “ground zero” of the scandal and examine how local prosecutors, federal authorities, and powerful institutions failed to stop Epstein even after extensive allegations had already surfaced publicly.
