Baba Kuboye carries a 100-year family tradition in African music. Tracing his lineage from his great-great-grandfather J.J. Ransome-Kuti (who released Nigeria’s first album in 1925) to his grand uncle Fela Kuti, activist grandmother Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, and parents Fran and Tunde Kuboye, Baba shows how to honor history while building something entirely new.

Guest Bio
Baba Kuboye is a U.S.-based Afrobeat artist, multi-instrumentalist, and voting member of the Recording Academy who holds a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering alongside a Master's in Mobile Communication Systems. Blending his background in technical problem-solving with a century of family heritage, he founded Down 4 Whateva Entertainment (the first minority-owned independent Afrobeat label in the United States), to build sustainable infrastructure for artists in the diaspora.

A Hollywood Independent Music Award winner (Ikoyi Boy) and Intercontinental Music Award winner (Aiye), Baba actively uses his global platform, cross-genre collaborations, and voting seat at the Grammys to advocate for independent creators and ensure African music receives proper industry recognition and compensation.

This podcast is built from the grind up; showcasing the real, the raw, and the rise of Black business.

There's a particular energy that comes from a conversation happening in real time, a sense of immediacy and authenticity that can't be replicated. That's the core of the Black Business Live Podcast, presented by All Things Black and Beautiful. This isn't a polished, heavily edited series; it's a live and immersive space where the stories of Black entrepreneurs, creatives, and established leaders unfold as they happen. You'll hear the genuine reactions, the unscripted moments of insight, and the raw narrative of building something from the ground up. The focus is squarely on those who have not only scaled their own companies but who carry a deep commitment to pulling others up alongside them. Every episode moves beyond a simple question-and-answer format to become a strategic dialogue. It’s born from a need for real community and authentic representation in the business world, offering listeners a front-row seat to discussions about partnership, resilience, and the nuanced realities of leadership. Tuning into this podcast feels like gaining access to a private masterclass where vulnerability and triumph share the same stage. The journeys shared here provide both a roadmap and a source of solidarity for anyone looking to navigate their own path in business and entrepreneurship.
