Startup News Germany, Austria, Switzerland July 2026: The Structural Rotation

Author: Startuprad.io™ – Europe’s Voice on Startups, VC, Innovation & Growth September 3, 2026 Duration: 29:02
July 2026 was the most capital-intensive month in DACH startup history — and the month Germany's venture capital market completed its structural rotation from software to hardware. Helsing closed $1.8 billion at an $18 billion valuation, led by Goldman Sachs, making it Europe's most valuable defence-tech startup and Germany's second decacorn after Celonis. Quantum Systems raised $1.2 billion at $8 billion from Blackstone, Airbus, and Advent International. Proxima Fusion reached unicorn status with €411 million from Google and RWE. STARK Defence added €500 million. In one month, DACH defence and deeptech companies raised more than $3.5 billion. July was also about exits. Delivery Hero was acquired by Uber for about $13 billion, one of the largest German tech exits ever. Eli Lilly acquired AtaiBeckley for up to $3.8 billion, while SAP acquired Freiburg AI startup Prior Labs only eighteen months after launch. In this episode, Startuprad.io founder Joern "Joe" Menninger analyses why this capital rotation is structural, what the exit pipeline signals about ecosystem maturity, and where the money may move next.
