Trump’s Trial Balloons: Talking Trump Coverage with Bloomberg’s Margaret Talev

Author: CSIS | Center for Strategic and International Studies May 3, 2017 Duration: 0:00
This week, Donald Trump told Bloomberg’s Senior White House Correspondent Margaret Talev he would meet with North Korean leader Kim Jung Un, that he may propose a gas tax to pay for bridge and road repairs, that he was exploring whether to break up the big banks and even suggested a health care plan more generous than Barack Obama’s for those with preexisting conditions. All in a 30 minute Oval Office interview! We asked Margaret what this whirlwind week was like and what it’s like covering President Trump. Download transcript here.

Each week, legendary CBS News journalist Bob Schieffer and CSIS chief communications officer H. Andrew Schwartz sit down for a conversation that goes behind the headlines. Their Bob Schieffer's "About the News" with H. Andrew Schwartz podcast features the people who are actually reporting the stories, creating a unique dialogue about the craft of journalism itself and how the news shapes our political and policy landscapes. This is a production of the Center for Strategic and International Studies in collaboration with the Bob Schieffer College of Communication at TCU. Rather than just analyzing events, Schieffer and Schwartz engage with the most interesting voices from across the media spectrum, from established legacy institutions to the dynamic digital frontier. Listeners are brought into a substantive discussion about the forces that determine what becomes news, how it is presented, and the real-world consequences of that coverage. The tone is informed and conversational, drawing on decades of experience to ask the questions that get to the heart of modern journalism. Tuning into this podcast provides a deeper understanding of the news cycle from the inside out, offering context and perspective that is often missing from the daily chatter.
