Part 2: The one where we go back to the... present?

Part 2: The one where we go back to the... present?

Author: Brazil Nuts May 19, 2020 Duration: 54:05

Hi, friends! To keep with our schedule, we’re releasing part 2 of our political parties saga today. So the parties continue, but they're the kind where the cheese dip has been at room temperature for several hours, and everyone is nervously eyeing the exit worried that the host could bust out a Twister board at any moment. The sexiness, as usual, is all up to Gareth.

This episode deals with all the nutty goodness of Brazil post-military dictatorship and up to now.

This one is a bit… listen with caution around kids? Okay, have fun!

Larissa and Gareth would like to thank Uoster Zielinski for the graphic design and all the essential workers who are keeping us safe.

Song is “Corta-Jaca”, by Chiquinha Gonzaga, written in 1895 and performed by people we don’t know but think is copyright free.

Brazil Nuts: an insane journey through the world of Brazilian politics is a weekly exploration of the forces that have shaped, and continue to shake, the nation. Hosts Larissa and Gareth guide you through a landscape where triumph and tragedy are inseparable, finding the compelling stories within the chaos. Each episode connects the dots between past and present, examining how events like the 1970 World Cup victory or the long, complex process of abolition resonate in today's political climate. This isn't just a history lesson; it's an ongoing conversation about power, identity, and the sheer unpredictability of life in South America's largest country. You'll hear analysis that makes sense of the headlines by understanding the deep cultural and historical currents beneath them. The podcast thrives on the specific details-the bizarre scandals, the beautiful acts of resilience, and the bad policy decisions-that collectively tell a bigger story. Tune in for a perspective that is as informed as it is engaging, offering clarity on a subject that defies simple explanation. The journey is indeed insane, but it's one that makes the fascinating complexity of Brazil accessible, episode by episode.
