Hi, friends! Some housekeeping: we've been more consistently posting the pod on Saturdays and it actually seems like people prefer that anyway. So, that's now our new day of release  - SATURDAY. Also, we wanna do a mailbag episode, so if you have questions about Brazil, Wales, politics, wrestling or something you want our answer to, DM us @brazilnutspod or brazilnutspod@gmail.com.

Regardless, we're still late this week because, well, life is messy and and we gotta make do. Forgive us?

This episode is a rough one, but we do keep it light at the beginning, as usual and give a content warning before the real content starts. In this episode, we talk The West Wing, other questionable TV choices on our part, and the genocide of black youths in Brazil. On November 19th, João Alberto Silveira Freitas, 40, was killed at the hands on two security guards, in broad daylight, with 15 witnesses. He was a black man.

We'd like to thank Uoster Zielinski for our graphic design, and wish him a happy birthday. We also wanna thank all essential workers, more likely to be in positions that are underpaid, such as waiters, delivery services, drivers, janitors, housekeepers and, in Brazil, more likely to be black and exposed to Covid-19. #blacklivesmatter #vidaspretasimportam

Brazil Nuts: an insane journey through the world of Brazilian politics is a weekly exploration of the forces that have shaped, and continue to shake, the nation. Hosts Larissa and Gareth guide you through a landscape where triumph and tragedy are inseparable, finding the compelling stories within the chaos. Each episode connects the dots between past and present, examining how events like the 1970 World Cup victory or the long, complex process of abolition resonate in today's political climate. This isn't just a history lesson; it's an ongoing conversation about power, identity, and the sheer unpredictability of life in South America's largest country. You'll hear analysis that makes sense of the headlines by understanding the deep cultural and historical currents beneath them. The podcast thrives on the specific details-the bizarre scandals, the beautiful acts of resilience, and the bad policy decisions-that collectively tell a bigger story. Tune in for a perspective that is as informed as it is engaging, offering clarity on a subject that defies simple explanation. The journey is indeed insane, but it's one that makes the fascinating complexity of Brazil accessible, episode by episode.
