Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 10 Episode 52 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Friday morning 23 August 2024.

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent, where it is raining and 22 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning.

In Rugby Union: The first two Tests of the revamped Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup 2024 takes place this weekend, with the Fiji water Flying Fijians hosting Manu Samoa in Suva tonight and Canada against Japan in Vancouver, Canada tomorrow.

Manu Samoa will be keen to reverse their loss in this encounter at Apia Park last year.

And in Rugby League: Manly’s Ethan Bullemor, Haumole Olakau’atu and Corey Waddell were sent to the sin bin in one of the wildest games of the year, and the 30 minutes of pain proved too much for Manly to overcome after they blew a big lead to lose 34-26 to Wests Tigers and effectively cost themselves any chance of a top-four finish.

With the upset win, the Tigers went a long way to avoiding a third-straight wooden spoon.

In Football: Former England Football Manager, Gareth Southgate will take on the role of technical observer at UEFA this season.

The Englishman resigned from his position as national team manager five weeks ago, after eight years in charge.

Southgate, 53, was under contract until December 2024 but decided to step down following their disappointing loss to Spain in the EURO2024 final.

In Boxing: Saudi Arabian boxing magnate, Turki Alalshikh has announced a World Light Heavyweight title fight between Artur Beterbiev and Dimitry Bivol on 12 October titled 'Four Crown Showdown' – which also has the distinction of the first female fight in Saudi Arabia, with Skye Nicolson defending her WBC Featherweight title against English fighter Raven Chapman in Riyadh.

And in Sportsbiz: The NFL could approve the framework for private equity investment in franchises before the regular season starts, as owners and league officials continue to make progress on the long-awaited move.

Should team owners decide to vote on private equity investment - and approve the motion, next week - franchises could start seeing major cash windfalls by the end of this year.

And that’s a wrap!
