Best Hardcore of 2022

Best Hardcore of 2022

Author: brooklynvegan December 23, 2022 Duration: 1:31:50
It's been a huge year for hardcore, with more eyes on the genre than ever, so much creativity happening without the genre, and a slew of amazing new records. To go along with our list of 20 great hardcore releases from 2022, I teamed with two of my current favorite music critics that have been covering the hell out of hardcore all year, Eli Enis (Revolver, Endless Scroll) and Hugo Reyes (who writes the hardcore column Step 2 Rhythm over at The Alternative and whose writing can also be found on his Medium), to discuss and debate the best hardcore releases of 2022 on the latest episode of the BrooklynVegan podcast. Each of us ran down our lists of our personal top five hardcore releases of the year, and we discussed a few other faves after that. We also dove into some "hardcore-adjacent" faves and debated a bit about what truly counts as hardcore. There were a few releases that all three of us had on our lists, but a good amount of differences between the lists too. Between the three of us, we touched on everything from the more melodic alt-rock-leaning stuff to different varieties of straightedge to thrashy NYHC to heavy rapcore and plenty of other stuff in between. Music featured:Speed - "Not That Nice"End It - "New Wage Slavery"

For anyone who feels music is more than just background noise, BV Interviews: A Podcast About Music offers a space to dig deeper. This podcast emerges from the long-running music blog and online record store BrooklynVegan, channeling that same curated passion into audio form. Each episode is a conversation built on genuine enthusiasm, whether it's an intimate interview with a songwriter discussing their craft, an exploration of a musical movement's history, or a discussion about the currents shaping today's sounds. You'll hear about everything from the raw energy of punk and metal to the nuanced storytelling of folk and the innovative beats of hip hop, always with a focus on the artists and stories behind the music. It’s for listeners who crave context and connection, who want to understand not just what an artist makes, but why they make it. The tone is informed and engaging, like a discussion between friends who happen to know a lot about music. Tune in for thoughtful dialogues that go beyond the typical press cycle, offering a richer appreciation for the music you already love and a reliable guide to discovering something new. This is a podcast dedicated to the endless discovery and discussion that music inspires, straight from the people who live and breathe it every day.
