During the Persecution Autobiography of Father John Gerard-Father John Gerard

Drawn from the foundational writings of the Reformation, this series presents Calvins Commentary on Pauls Epistles to the Corinthians, Vol. 1. Here, the voice of John Calvin-theologian, pastor, and former lawyer-is engaged not as a historical artifact, but as a rigorous and pastoral guide through one of the New Testament's most challenging letters. Each episode delves into his verse-by-verse examination, where his legal precision meets deep spiritual conviction, unpacking Paul's direct address to a divided church grappling with morality, doctrine, and the nature of love itself. You'll hear Calvin's distinctive focus on the sovereignty of God and the clarity of scripture applied directly to the Corinthian context, revealing how these ancient disputes echo into modern faith and community life. This isn't a dry academic exercise; it's an immersion into the practical theology that fueled a religious revolution. For anyone interested in the roots of Protestant thought, the historical development of Christian doctrine, or simply a profoundly thoughtful exposition of biblical text, this podcast offers a unique window. The commentary, originally penned in the sixteenth century after Calvin's refuge in Switzerland, remains a cornerstone of theological study, and listening to it presented in this format allows its insights to resonate with new immediacy.
