Radio debut of a new folk duo! Parlour Roller is two ex-pat Ontarians (Ontarioans?) Skye Wallace and Ben Doerksen, now resident in East Van. Lovely to meet them and learn about their upcoming BC pre-Xmas tour. You can find them on Twitter and FB. (don't forget the 'Canadian' spelling of Parlour!)
Earlier in the show I pulled out some lovely 80's vinyl by South African bands in honour of the late Nelson Mandela. I hope he's smiling down on us.
Congrats to Vancouver Community College music grad Jennifer Gasoi for her Grammy nom! We ended the show with a cut from her nominated album (children's music category).
Next week will be the last live Folk Oasis of 2013. Seasonal treats for all! Requests are welcome..nothing schmaltzy, please!
Thanks, as always, for listening.

Tune into CiTR--Folk Oasis for a deep and refreshing dive into the vast, often overlooked landscapes of folk music, far from the campfire sing-alongs. Curated by the team at CiTR & Discorder Magazine, this podcast explores the genre's rich intersections with contemporary society and culture, highlighting artists and traditions that push boundaries and tell compelling stories. Each episode feels like a curated mixtape or a late-night radio discovery, blending music with thoughtful commentary that examines the roots and evolving branches of folk. You'll hear everything from haunting traditional ballads and gritty protest songs to innovative cross-genre fusions, all selected for their authenticity and emotional resonance. The conversation within this folk oasis is as important as the music itself, offering context about the scenes and communities that produce these sounds. While the series is currently on hiatus, the existing archive remains a vital resource for anyone eager to move beyond the mainstream. This isn't background music; it's an invitation to listen closely and connect with the narrative heart of folk. Discover your next favorite artist and gain a deeper appreciation for how folk music continues to reflect and shape our world within every episode of this distinctive podcast.
