Three Sermons on Hebrews 11-2-Thomas Goodwin

In this series, we continue walking through the detailed exposition of the third Gospel as presented by the early church father, Cyril of Alexandria. The Commentary on the Gospel of Luke, Sermons 111-125 focuses specifically on a rich sequence of passages, from chapter 16 verse 19 through chapter 18 verse 34. These sections contain some of Luke's most memorable parables and teachings, including the stories of the Rich Man and Lazarus and the Persistent Widow, alongside Jesus' direct predictions of his passion. Cyril's ancient voice, translated and read for a modern audience, offers a deeply theological and pastoral perspective that seeks to unravel the spiritual and moral dimensions within these texts. Listening to this podcast, you will encounter more than a historical lecture; it is a form of slow, contemplative engagement with scripture that was central to early Christian meditation. Each episode unpacks Cyril's line-by-line analysis, revealing how fifth-century believers grappled with applying these narratives to their own lives of faith. The tone is academic yet devotional, providing a unique bridge between patristic scholarship and personal spirituality. For anyone interested in the roots of Christian biblical interpretation beyond contemporary sound bites, this collection provides a substantial and thoughtful companion. The entire series invites a deeper consideration of familiar gospel stories through the lens of a foundational theologian whose work has influenced centuries of thought.
