Batch271: Topa Topa Brewing Co. founder Jack Dyer

Author: Craft Beer Republic September 29, 2021 Duration: 1:00:48
Cheers to drinking beers with new friends! Greg had the opportunity to stop into Topa Topa Brewing Co. in Ventura, CA, to sit down with founder & CEO Jack Dyer. In addition to sharing some fantastic beers, they talk about turning a dream into a brewery, pivoting in a pandemic, expanding while staying local, and so much more!

Jack talks about his history as a beer lover and his life before beer (hint, kids were involved). He also talks about the early days of starting a home-brew co-op, selling his beer to friends, and what ultimately led to partnering up with Brewmaster Casey Harris and stealing him away from Stone Brewing.

Greg and Jack also talk about expanding while staying local, and dialing in a new production facility during a pandemic. They also talk about the focus of Topa Topa when it comes to beer production, how not to describe a beer to a brewer, and switching to an off-site business model. Finally, the two wrap things up with a round of rapid-fire questions and find out Jack’s favorite word for being drunk.

Jack leads us on a guided tasting of a bunch of great beers: Tie Dye in the Sky, Dos Topas lager, Caseys’ Kolsch, Tux Nitro Milk Stout, Level Line Pale Ale, their Solitude Series with Waimea, Spectro Hazy IPA, and of course Chief Peak IPA.

A huge thanks to Jack for his time and for sharing some amazing beer!
