Desert Shepherdess - Interlacing Traditional & Modern Shepherding in the Arid Desert
In the vast, quiet expanse of the desert, a different kind of life takes root. Desert Shepherdess-Interlacing Traditional & Modern Shepherding in the Arid Desert is the sound of that life, hosted by Marissa, who wears the many hats of shepherdess, homesteader, and mom. This isn't a theoretical guide but a lived-in chronicle from a working homestead where the ancient rhythms of animal husbandry meet the stark realities of a dry climate. You'll hear honest conversations about the specific challenges of raising livestock where water is scarce and the sun is relentless, particularly the often-overlooked struggle of keeping wool sheep healthy and economically viable in extreme heat. Marissa delves into the practicalities of creating a more manageable, integrated homestead, exploring how a single, well-suited breed of sheep can provide meat, milk, and fiber without leading to burnout. For those feeling isolated by distance from veterinary support, this podcast builds confidence through shared, hard-won knowledge about animal health and husbandry. It’s a resource for anyone, whether you're dreaming of your first flock or knee-deep in daily chores, seeking a blend of timeless wisdom and modern adaptation. Tune in for a deeply personal and educational podcast that connects the dots between caring for land, animal, and family.
